I’ve been seeing these birds and was wondering what they were. Today I saw them in my yard and wish I took a photo to help identify what they are but I didn’t They are about the size of blue jay, brown in color, the back of their head is red and when they fly away, they have a very distinctive white tail. They tend to fly of very low to the ground. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is? I called the New Hampshire Audubon Society's in Concord but they do not help which such information over the phone. Apparently I need to stop in and buy a book from them and she could me.
