I had a great day up north yesterday. I began hunting in Colebrook and began working my way south stopping at likely bird cover, and having a ball hunting, taking in the views, and watching my Setter Miss Roux look for birds. Here's a couple of pics: Fog rolling down and the sun coming up over the White Mountains. Attachments:

This is a beautiful north country Ruffed Grouse, or Paaaatridge as we call em I've always wanted to get a pristine one, an adult with a huge fan, and a nice long crest on his head, with full black ruffs on his neck. This bird has it all. As soon as I got home I toweled it off and wrapped it in newspaper...it's headed to the Taxidermist. Attachments:

...and here is Miss Roux, and a wet and very tired one at that. 330 miles worth of bird hunting in one day and a lot of time in the dog box this week...she, or I should say we could use a day of rest from all the hunting we've done this week so far. We'll rest Sunday night ;D We stopped and shared a cheese burger, her favorite after a long hunting day. Attachments:

I wish I had a bird season to post about One of these days I'll get out after them. I hunted them often when I hunted in our VT deer camp but I'm not sure I'll be hunting up there any more.

Looks like fun guys! I am seeing tons of grouse this year while I am out squirrel hunting and scouting trapping lands.

You guys are more than welcome to come along anytime. I'm headed to Franklin later today, just waiting for the rain to pull out. Yesterday I had a good one, it was great weather so Roux and I drove around from cover to cover. Here's her on a nice stylish point. Attachments:

Later on in the afternoon I met up with this little guy. Very glad Roux and him didn't meet up. They are pretty neat animals, and I always remind people...if your dog gets into them it's not the porcupines fault...it's the trainer's. They just happen to be there. Attachments:

Hey Coalman, how ya been? Great blog! Looks like you and Bay are having a great season. Roux and are are looking forward to chasing Woodcock this weekend...Bow Hunting is taking a back seat to bird hunting this year. I need to reverse that soon...just not enough time in the fall to do everything ya want LOL

Good luck this weekend Coleman! Yeah, we'll have to chase pheasant together sometime soon. Maybe we can even talk Dick into dusting off that old double, cleaning the cob webs out of the barrels, and see if he still has it too! haha.

I hear ya Coalman. I don't think the woodcock have come down yet either...not many resident birds and people are seeing plenty way up north still. I've only seen two this season. I think the high temps were tough on the dogs too. Too warm out and too much air goes through the mouth panting instead of the nose. Hey, at least we get our exercise right? LOL Come on COLD weather!!!!!!!!!!
