Time to get out & double check my turkey thumper I do every year regardless if I remove my Williams Fire sights or not when looking to shoot other critters. One just never knows what happened since last year’s turkey season. The boys & I are heading out in a few minutes check if my thunder stick is on I'll shoot once at 20yds to make sure I've got the sights on the money. Once that's done I'll shoot 20, 30 & 40yds and count up the numbers. Now I’m not taking out my 5 target patterning stand but instead, I’m taking out my 1 target stand I use for sighting in my rifles. It’s a lot easy to carry, easier to set up & I’m not out there trying to find a choke/load combo…just double checking.

Well yesterday’s double check didn't go that well for me. I got a nice reminder from my trigger guard on my middle finger as to why I bought the lead sled First shot at 20yds standing up free hand despite the kick, seemed to be great. However, the 30yd shot was another story because of the pain in my finger, shooting free hand and being just down right scared I pulled the shot so bad I embarrassed myself! The kick from those 2oz 3.5" loads slammed my finger again and I was done! So today I did it differently Seeing in the field I never really feel the recoil or worried about the recoil, I normally will pattern from a bench using my lead sled. I do though take a final shot once I’m happy from a sitting position as if I was up against a tree that day or the next day to just be sure. My boys and I just got back from doing it right and my pattern is right on the money I should have never tried standing up shooting it free hand but hey, I'm known to do some knucklehead things from time to time ;D
