We head north to the Jackman Region on Saturday, bringing up a load of bait and checking on the camp for first time this year to see how it fared the winter. Anyone else thinking "Bear Hunting" already?

I hate to admit it but I’m not much of bear hunter but more of an opportunist if I see one. Growing up I never bear hunted even though PA has some dandy bear hunting. Once moving to NH, I had my chance and actually took a good one with my bow. I was bear hunting in another area the week I took mine but the day I took him, I was deer hunting and he happened to come in at the wrong time. It was a great experience but since that bear, I’ve let a lot walk because it’s just for me. I need to be better prepared with help and a good butcher before I do it again. Since my first harvest, I’ve learned a lot about care after the shot which is probably where my experience went wrong. I still buy a tag every year just in case a good one comes in but even then I’m not sure if I’d take another. I know where there are a lot of bears in my hunting area or main core but still didn’t have the urge to chase them. Now if they keep messing with my trail cameras or if landowner needs me to, I’ll take one

You bet, thats one of my Daughters bucket list to accomplish. Thinking about baiting on my property by the swamp so i'm not in conflict with other Hunters.

I thought about a bait pile this year too. You can register it as deer, bear and coyote, so you can be covered.
