What's everyone doing this summer with their hunting dogs? Field trials?...training?...swimming? Running those brown snowshoe hares?...how about coon?...sweet corn season will be here soon! Any one getting your bear dogs in shape? Also, nothing wrong with sitting in the shade or on the floor and sharing a sleeve of Ritz crackers with your 4 legged hunting buddy. Tell us what's been going on, share some photos, etc. Plenty of stuff to chase now, with more options coming as we get later in our year!

wishing i had put more time into my young lab, but i think he will be ok for ducks (if i can hit some birds) ;D. my lab that tends towards upland birds is big and black so training runs with him in summer are short. i can guarantee we aren't the biggest threat in the woods or marshes for birds, but it is a blast hunting with dogs

It sure is fun! And I really like Labs, and miss mine. They're truly the "do everything" dog.
For me, this summer I'll be working my Setter as time allows. I dont coon hunt nearly as much as I used to but, we treed one last weekend and plan to go at least once more before sweet corn season. Once sweet corn is ready I go as much as I can, it's the best time of year. During actual kill season I'm too bust hunting birds and bow hunting for deer so my hounds rarely gets to chew on a coon...but that's ok, he likes treeing them and I like not having to deal with them afterwards.

I haven't been doing any training, and hardly anything at all in the woods. I have NEVER seen deer flies as bad as they are this year. Is everyone else seeing this too? I'm talking about roughly 50 swarming all over you and biting. Usually there's the annoying 5 or 6 that usually only requires a hat to deter them so you can tune them out. Not this year. Even pulling in my driveway, we have to sit in the vehicle for a few minutes after turning the engine off so the deer flies slowy go away, initially swarming your windows and mirrors and sounding like rain bouncing off the glass. How long can they last???
