We had vinyl siding put on either last summer or two summers ago and thought the few bats we had living between our chimney and original T-111 siding had moved on. Well they didn’t and to my surprise and excitement, I watched them coming out last night from a small opening between the chimney and J channel of the siding. Now I knew that we had three still living in there I seen a few weeks ago but last night I ended up counting 15 bats squeezing out of the crack No wonder the mosquitoes haven’t been bad around the house this year So eat em up my little friends…eat em all up

That's pretty cool. I like bats...keep wanting to make a bat house and hang it up on the side of the house. Maybe I should just open up the J Channel and let em have at it LOL.

Yep...I tired the bat house thing several years ago. All they turned out to be were wasp houses I too love having the bats flying around. As long as they stay where they are now, they can live there forever Here’s the little opening they slip in and out from. It the dark crack about 3 blocks down from the top.

I wonder what's in it that would be bad to breathe in? You would think it's just "processed" bugs. I wonder if it can cause a build up of methane say in a non-vented attic?

Yikes! Thanks Coalman, I just did a quick web search. It says there's a fungus in the droppings that can be very bad to breathe. Good to know!

The day I see it coming out of the J channel, is the day I'll have it cleaned up ;D In my situation with them living outside of my house in a ventilated area, I believe we're OK Back in my short lived caving days in the Harpers Ferry WV (tri-state area of WV/MD/VA), one of the caves we explored, you had to go in with breathing filter for the first 150 yards. Lucky for our guide/buddy at the time, he had an extra mask but not for all of us. Once in, he went back out to the entrance to get our other buddy. He was pretty set on wearing it and would not Dave just use his shirt to cover his mouth and nose.
