Kyles first gun and hunting trip

Well I was at Septemberfest on Monday with no other intentions then to look around when this shiny black gun in the used shotgun rack caught my attention. It was a 20ga Benelli Nova. I looked it over real good and it looked like it had only been fired a few times. No scratches on the bolt, none on the inside of the receiver. It was priced at 315. I brought it over to the benelli guys who were there and asked them to look it over which they did. they took it all apart and asked me what my problem was with it and I said nothing it just seemed the price was to good. They said that it looked like it had hardly been fired. I brought it over to the desk and dickered a bit and got it for 300 even.

So I figured it was time for Kyle to go on his first hunting trip. We are going to take off after school on the 19th and drive to Northern Ontario to hunt grouse with his Pepere. No dog, no wife no brother just him. We are going to hunt Native style!

Here is kyle tyring out his new gun at the range the other night. Did not do to bad either!

Now that's a road trip. Bet he don't sleep a wink the night before!

Little bit tired, 3 hours sleep since yesterday morning and 780 mile under my belt but but we got out this afternoon anyway. Kyle did great. He shot his limit and we got a total of 8. He handled the gun very well and shot straight so he is a happy camper!

We went out today but it was a little slow. heavy rain and some wind. Kyle managed to kill the only bird we saw. Kyle tool some picture of what the territory looks like around here and some of the stuff we see WAY back in the bush.

The first few are what it looks like up this way. LOTS of water and muskeg. For those who dont know muskeg is like a floating mat of weeds and grass.







the next few are of a trappers cabin and the view in the middle of the woods right on a river. We call it camp 40 because its 40 klicks off the main road.






These are of another trappers camp. Anyone guess what the building in the second picture is? The third picture may give it away to some. This is about 20 klicks down the trail and about 5-6 through a woods path. LOTS AND LOTS of work to get the materials in here.






Anyone know what this little contraption is?




Kyle was very curious as to what this was. Once we explained it to him he thought it was really cool and said that trappers were pretty smart and creative people.
